I wish I could go with you guys on a Silversides rescue mission,but what could I do? Clean parts, I guess.I'll just watch you guys for now.I wish I could find a 1979 or so Gillig tandem axle bus,or even a single rear axle bus,but they're all considered vintage now. Used to be able to pick them up sealed bid from school districts for about 500 dollars. I wish I would have, but I thought there would always be time.I thought of re siding and old style Gillig with corrugated aluminum.Would it look kind of like a "real" Silversides? Not to someone who has the real thing I guess.

Awsome man, you guys ROCK! A very testing ones patience, trip for sure, but also much knowledge gained. I love these old buses, they are just art deco to die for. Cool that you are into VWs too, I did a 59 Delux Beetle years ago, always wanted another one, I have worked on a few since then.

My family sold a 4103 while living in Parketsburg, WV back in early 1978. It was an quartet bus and we used it for a traveling puppet ministry for children for 6 years. Traveled all over east coast with five children.... perhaps it ended up in Belpre...across the river. Didn't keep any records but have a picture or two. Thanks for your video... Dick and Jan Cagno

Love those Detroits. I grew up working on them. I have a 4-53 in a older motor grader and a 6V out of a landfill trash compactor that I'm going to install in a truck I'm going to restore.

Higher rpm you need to find you a automatic. We have a Detroit in a 10 speed Pete our 13 year old doesn't rake gears like you. U need to Rev it up more to shift it
